I like to open doors for people to show them that they can be successful beyond the sport they love to play.

In this series you're going to see a lot of NBA players talking about how I've influenced them to later become businessmen. I like to be a role model for others and I want to leave an impact on people's lives.

I also knew that my decision making was going to affect a lot of people. I've always wanted to do things the right way and I've always been aware of what I've done and how I've done it. I don't think I'm comfortable with that yet, with understanding that I am a role model. How hard has it been for you to feel comfortable with being a role model for society, beyond sports? And it's not a perfect world, but it's been a good one. It's going to give people a chance to get into my world. I think that's why people like Magic and I think that's why people are going to love 'They call me Magic. So when you think about what people love, I've been in a lot of those situations. What a comeback story, right? People also love it when you give back and through the foundation we've put a lot of students through college and helped the poorest communities in America. When I had to retire from the Lakers because I had HIV, I got a chance to play on the Dream Team in the Games. And they love those comeback stories even more.

When you can reinvent yourself and become a businessman from a basketball court, people love those stories. What makes these types of sporting documentaries so successful in today's society? I couldn't have thought so big and that has surprised me. Never, not even in my wildest dreams, could I have thought of being known all over the world as I am today, of having won all those championships with the Lakers or of having had the success I have had in business. I never thought I could be where I am today. It is true that I have been surprised by the level at which I have been able to grow. That's what caught my attention, because the other thing, telling my life, my journey, I already knew. I think it's more about that, what I've been surprised by how people feel about me. About how I played basketball, about how I am as a person, as a husband, as a father, as a businessman and all the different facets of my life. I think it's been more discovering what people feel about me. I think I already knew almost everything about myself.

Now that you have decided to share your personal and professional life, what have you discovered about yourself? People are going to see the ups and downs of my life and now is the perfect time because people are ready for it. All those situations have forced me to reinvent myself. There have been many phases in my life, going from the basketball court to a boardroom. came out and said he was gay and so many, many things. Going through announcing that I was an HIV carrier 30 years ago. Now I can tell my truth, my own journey from growing up in Lansing, Michigan, all the way to Michigan State, where I went to college, then my story in Los Angeles, playing for the Lakers, and then becoming a businessman. Some people have tried to tell my story, but it didn't come from me and turned out not to be the truth. I think because until now I had not told my story. How did you know that the time had come to tell your story? What is the reason for doing so at this time? It is a story about his life that he shared with various media outlets around the world, among which was MARCA, who has sat down with the NBA legend. However, the figure of the point guard goes far beyond what he did on the court and that is what he wants to show with 'They call me Magic', his new documentary series, that shows all the sides of a character that transcended the sport. Earvin 'Magic' Johnson is still one of the most talked about figures in the NBA, and was one of the pillars on which the league was built on.
